I have heard a lot about recycling and do my best to be Eco friendly. However, I had never thought about upcycling and ofcourse never discussed about it until I was invited to the exciting “Upcycling Event with Currys”.
Upcycling – I had imagined about hammering a wood, sewing the curtains and showcasing the empty glass bottles. Note !!!! “All my imaginary items were quite small in size”.
I was welcomed by the lovely people at JoesBloggers, Gemma and James and had my way through the array of good old washing machine drums and ofcourse had a sneak peek at the exciting prizes to be won including my favourite Miele washing machine by some of the lovely and lucky bloggers (including me 🙂 ) who were at the event.
shocked! 🙂 Hammering a New one!???? No chance!!!!! Let’s assume it is going to something similar!
I was clueless about what we would be upcycling and the outcome until I entered the room. When I entered the room, someone was vigorously hammering a washing machine drum and for a minute I thought… “Am I at the right place!?” Did I have a good lunch!?!!, Would I be hammering another drum in few minutes time!!!!????!”
Well, Thankfully, someone else took the job of hammering and nailing and all I have to do was just getting messy with Colourful paints.
But Painting and be creative !!!! With What!?
The Suspense was revealed! It’s the day with the Washing machine drums and turning them into DecoBox, Lamp Shade, Foot stool, Table and Shelf! And I have opted to go for the Lamp Shade!
Well, The drum was chosed, Painted and I wanted to keep it in DD1’s Bedroom – So, decided to go for “Sky and Stars” theme and enjoyed doing the details with the paint. The final touch was with the Glow in the Dark stickers – Hope it gave an unique look to the Upcycled good old drum!
When I got home, there was a happy kid who couldn’t wait to try her new toy!!!! And Dad was kind enough (and free enough) to finish the wiring !
Here’s our night lamp glowing in the Dark!
Here are some other lovely creations made by other bloggers!
There were prizes for the best tweets during the event – But I was too busy being creative and gave a break to the Social Media. However, one of the lovely creations will win the amazing Miele washing machine from Currys and I can’t wait to see who it would be! And, Ofcourse fingers crossed and hope the Glow in the Dark Good old Washing machine drum Lamp shade is impressive!

Looks like you had great time painting! The Table cover underneath proves it ! :)) Upcycling is something new for me too.. I have somehow never thought about it! Next time when we meet, let’s try and do a foot stool if we can get hold of a washing machine drum or something similar 🙂
