If you ever wondered…..What is social media?
Social media is a platform full of websites and apps that allows you to share information, connect with others no matter where they are in the world and create online communities. Popular examples of social media platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Snapchat. Social media has transformed how people communicate, share ideas and engage with one another, influencing everything from personal relationships to business practices and global events.
Hold the fire…….Who can use social media?
Anyone can use social media but a lot of the apps do have an age restriction, for example snapchat has an age restriction of 12+ but google says its ideally only for 13 and over.
fun or addiction…..Why do people use social media?
People use social media for multiple reasons but the most common reason is connection. People use it so they can reach out with families across the world and connect with friends. Social media also allows you to make new friends online or in person.
Is it for me? ….What are the pros of social media?
Entertainment is a very popular pro of social media as it can keep you engaged for hours. There are many apps that keep you entertained like Tiktok and Youtube. Another pro is that it helps you to connect with people all across the globe and to make new friends. If you are an introvert apps like snapchat really helps you to make new friends and find your place. There are also apps that help you with your confidence and ability to speak up. In addition, you can also get information in a blink of an eye instead of having to go to the superstore to get a newspaper.
Beware…..What are the cons of social media?
The consequences of having social media can me very harsh. For example you can get hacked or scammed by someone you don’t know online. One way to help this is by having different passwords to all your apps and not answering any calls from unknown or no id. Another consequence is that once you post or say something online you can’t get rid of, its always there, therefore be careful with what you post. In addition, another negative is that you might be mentally affected with what you see online because you might start to compare others with yourself. Cyberbullying can also happen but if it does just tell a trusted adult and block, delete or ban that number. Most importantly, it may get you addicted…
No matter what….
Always remember, You are beautiful, and being a wonderful person helps you and the world. Don’t get addicted, know your limits, when you are guilty of being on Social Media for long, sit back and think if the time you spent on Social media was worth it.
Remember, technology is good when used in the right way.
