Pollution – It really has gone out of control. Wherever you go, there is some sort of pollution!
Think about air, water, food, and anything environmental!!!!! Thinking about it drive us mental. Knowingly or unknowingly, we are the main cause for the pollution and it not only affects us, but the generations to come!
Living near Heathrow means, we have no options to avoid the air pollution and all we can do is eat healthy, exercise and try to keep the mind positive! But there are other things we could do to avoid and reduce other kind of pollution we face day to day and to keep my family health sound and safe.
The cleanliness and loyalty to the environment comes from within and it just has to be every individuals responsibility to leave an sustainable world to the generation
Wash only if needed and opt in for lower temperature
When my first daughter was born, I remember I have been doing endless wash and washing everything at 90 degrees! As a new mother, I was just so scared as any other about any illness my child would catch due to uncleanliness! But later I realised, the only way for her to make her immune system strong is by fighting against the illnesses when she is exposed to bacteria and not just by hiding from them. After all, she had to go out and be with other children at some day! It does not mean I leave her with the same nappy for the whole day so she will get the bacteria and fight against them , if you know what I mean. It just comes naturally. Clothes need to be cleaned but that Super cleaning all the time is definitely not something essential.
So do only what is essential, When possible, wash in 30 and do an Eco wash. Quick wash refreshes your clothes.
Recycle and reduce the landfill
I am glad that our council enforces recycling habits to the local residents. Life has gone in such a way that, most of us hardly pay attention if there are no rules around doing it!
Hard and fast rules become essential in modern lifestyle to encourage people to be eco-friendly.
When my children dispose that yogurt tub the black bin waste, I don’t clean them up… but I call my children, ask them to pick it and put it in the plastic recycling basket. Children learn by practise, they find every opportunity to hideaway from responsibilities but it is our responsibility to teach them in what way they benefit when they stick to the rules and good habits.
It is stated that one of the most powerful ways to encourage socially responsible children, is to model socially aware behaviours for them to see.
Use cloth nappies and have some nappy free time everyday
Use cloth nappies as much as you can, they are after all not that bad and good for the kids skin too considering the amount of chemicals in disposable nappies! I have less awareness about cloth nappies when I had my first child but for the second, she was always on cloth nappies – It gave me a great satisfaction when the black bin wasn’t overflowing with stinky nappies. There are many eco-friendly cloth nappies on the market that you can research.
Save energy and go Paperless
Please learn to switch off the appliances when not in use. Just try it for a week and see how much you could save on your bills by switching off those appliances in stand by. After all you also escape from some unwanted radiations too.
Go Paperless and ask for the bills to e-mailed. It is hard to find anyone without a smartphone now and by going paperless, the technology can be well used.
Get out for fresh air and do some exercise
I hear you thinking what on earth this would do to be eco-friendly!? This is for you… for your soul and mind. when you get out, you meet people. You don’t really have to be talking to them but seeing other humans definitely takes a lot of hidden stress out of the mind.
When I was a teen and on those days when I got really fed up with life, I would just go and find a chair near the Airport arrival gate…. and watch people loaded with emotions!
Otherwise, I would just head out for a window shopping to the high street and do nothing except sitting on one of the benches and watch people walking with shopping bags. Sometimes, I open up a topic with someone sitting next to me about “Community Spirit” and what we could do to help the community. I am glad to know many businesses now are getting involved in raising awareness about being environment friendly.
If you are like me and would love to know more about what you could do to the greener environment, the eBook from Glasdon has loads of tips. If you wonder who these Glasdon is, most of the recyclable bins you see come from them. You can refer the link https://uk.glasdon.com/litter-bins to understand how businesses like Glasdon are working with the community to help everyone contribute to the greener environment.
By adopting the mind-set that your individual changes can help to make the world a more sustainable place, you can inspire others around you to follow suit. Working together to make better, more mindful decisions surrounding sustainability will ensure we continue to protect and grow the environment for generations to come.
