If you are thinking about renovating or re-decorating your home, you should explore the possibilities of replacing the curtains with blinds or shutters. Although the traditional curtains makes your home look beautiful and authentic, blinds and shutters can still give a luxury look and most importantly, they make the room look more chic and spacious! 🙂
It will be 10 years soon since we moved into our first own home, and we are still renovating. We are taking it step by stop, spending a little at a time and making the home look how we want it to be. We, first had a Beige colour curtain in the living room which I absolutely hated from day 1, but hubby always loved it (happens!) and it is one of the things I constantly gave up for years although I kept moaning about quite a lot!
Finally, there was a day to set all those curtains free and I managed to get his attention on Shutters and Blinds. I have noticed the shutters or blinds in quite a few houses in our area and was impressed with how they look from outside! After quite a lot of consideration, we narrowed down our search to Shutters and Blinds and stopped looking for curtains.
I especially wanted to have either shutters or Roman Blinds. Shutters obviously got our attention due to the luxury of customisation and how naturally they get aligned to the existing window frames. With Roman blinds, you can either keep them opened or closed and I feel they are usually good for the Kitchen and Bathroom area and not definitely for living room and bedrooms! That’s my opinion.
Obviously, shutters were almost double the price of blinds but you definitely get what you pay for. They come with loads of options and we decided to go with them for the reasons below which may help you make the decision
- They are very stylish and contemporary, you can choose the width of the slates and colour to suit your taste.
- Custom built and so they can suit any window shapes.
- Less maintenance and easy to clean.
- They improve energy efficiency and retain the heat. At first, I honestly didn’t believe it, but being in winter months, I can confidently tell you they are great.
- Because window shutters are custom built to fit the window, there are less gaps for cold air to get into the room. They can help maintain a desired room temperature and significantly improve energy performance and reduce heating bills.
- You can move the slates up or down, having privacy but still letting the light in. You can just open any shutter you prefer and have the view you like.
- They definitely make the room bigger.
As mentioned, there is cost involved but we did a good research and you can do that too. I would welcome you to do your own research and find the best option that suits you. We have shutters in our bedrooms and living room, blinds in our patio door and kitchen window and they all look just perfect now. Finally, if you have blinds, there are some cleaning tips on direct blinds that you may wish to look.
Do you have shutters or blinds in your home? Have any tips in choosing the best shutters or blinds? I would love your comments.
e-meet you in the next post…
Take care…
