Hotel Tycoon board game by Esdevium Games
Where to Buy
It’s Spring but we still hardly have only a few opportunities to visit the local park or for some outdoor adventures as the sun is still deciding to take rest most days! Children need options to keep them occupied and board games are mostly the best. And it if it a family game, it is a double bonus.
When we got the opportunity to review few games from Esdevium Games, I was more happy as I was getting ready to keep the kids entertained during Easter holidays. We have received Hotel Tycoon, Dobble and Palace Pets – Royal Pet Salon. I will share our experience with Hotel Tycoon in this review and watch this space for our thoughts on Dobble and Palace Pets – Royal Pet Saloon.
Remember the good old board game “Hotel” that you have played in 1970’s. I don’t know anything about it but Hotel Tycoon is a trendy version of Hotel with some innovative modifications to make it stylish and compatible with the modern 21st Century.
Contents of Hotel Tycoon:
- Game board
- 30 buildings
- 8 gardens
- 8 title deeds
- 30 entrances
- 4 airplane playing pieces
- 2 dice
- Rules of the game
- Money
- Initial set up sheet
Warning: The building and the towers are not ready made!!!!! It’s not a game that you are ready to play as soon as you open the box. You are in for a lovely surprise. You need build the towers, hotels and beach houses with the cute little creative contents in the box.
To the parents: This game is suitable from 8+, mainly because there is an initial setup that needs a bit of concentration and co-ordination and ofcourse a lot of patience :). If you DC is not so good in being patient, you might be needed to go for rescue :).
DD1 is quite good in putting things together, so honestly didn’t like me helping, But I am the eldest child at Mummy and the cuties and couldn’t resist myself interfering
So for the initial setup, you need to sit together as a family which is the most fun part I loved!!!! There are quite a good number of bits and pieces but everything is securely packed in individual plastic bags so you won’t miss them but you might have to get them all in one go to reduce the risk of missing the pieces.
I heard some pleasing words like ” This is awesome Mummy” , “You know what! The people who built this game are really wonderful because they didn’t waste too many plastic bags and thought wisely so the children can build their own houses”
It will take a minimum of 20 – 30 minutes to do the initial setup and then you are ready to go! I guarantee, You will really be pleased with the finishing piece. It is very colourful and definitely attractive. The towers and the buildings are 3D to get you more involved in the game.
The little Aeroplane counters are a great touch to the game. The game rules are quite simple. you first buy the land and then start building on top of it. The games goes on until one of the players have all the money and others go bankrupt. There is a very good video to explain the rules rather than me writing it here!
Players take turns to jet around the board snapping title deeds, then it’s time to build their stunning Hotels – from the ice palaces of the Artika, to the skyscrapers of Uptown Towers. And if their guests stay long enough, they might just go bankrupt when it’s time to pay the bill!
Another warning: This game is more addictive! but you are in for a lot of fun. At first, it looks quite complicated to understand but you will enjoy it within few Goes. It says 40 minutes on the box to finish the game but we have had quite long runs!
and really enjoying it as the Easter holidays have kicked in now.
Hotel Tycoon is designed for 2-4 Players aged 8+ and is available to buy from major superstores and toy stores. It is priced £24.99
